scarves with meaning

Last week I won Puttin' on the G.R.I.T.S. giveaway.

Grits gave away three scarves from fashionABLE.

( from Grits post )   FashionABLE is a non-profit organization that works with women in Africa who have been sexually exploited due to the effects of poverty.  By making scarves, these women are given an alternate means of income which allows them to get out of the sex industry.

so, I thought that I would share this wonderful non-profit organization with everyone, and hopefully you will check it out too!

Christmas cards

Do you send picture Christmas Cards?
Would you like 50 free cards?
I have always sent the store bought ones.
Last year, I didn't even send out Christmas cards. ( we received so few last year)
This year, I thought that I would do something different and send some picture cards.
I have always been turned off by picture cards because it is very hard to get my family to pose for that one family picture. (none of us like it actually).

We can never take a picture where everyone is looking at the camera!
here are a couple of examples!

Here Ollie is looking down.
Here Van is covering his face.

Here, Petey is the only one looking at the camera.
 It gets very frustrating!

Now, there is so many options, I can use separate pictures for everyone!
Isn't that great?

Shutterfly also has some pretty cool party invites too!

They have cute Christmas ornaments too!

Shabby Apple, Aprons & Pie

Shabby Apple has a NEW line of aprons called Boysenberry Pie.
each apron comes with a recipe too!

I love them all, but this one is my absolute favorite!
(favorite cake too!)

A crisp bib of carrot and custard-colored cotton with a gathered skirt descending from a contrasting tie-waist and pleated detailing at the bust will be sure to keep your dresses protected from your desserts.
Carrot Cake

to celebrate the new line, Shabby Apple blog is having a contest and giveaway....

post your favorite pie recipe and you could win.....

"The winner will receive a complete set of Domestic Art notecards for a total of 15, one for each of the completed paintings in Leslie's series, all hand-signed, titled and individually sleeved, PLUS a 20 x 30" hand-finished and signed giclee print of the Domestic Art painting of their choice".

here is a print by Leslie Graff....

and here is my pie...

This pie is one of my favorites because I used blackberries from my grandparents farm to make it. My cousin Lisa and I would pick all of grandma and grandpa's wild blackberries. We would eat them till our bellies were full. We would spend time running around on the farm during the summers. Blackberries always make me think of summers when I was little.

Blackberry pie

Chilled Blackberry Pie

3 1/2 tbsp. cornstarch
3/4 c. sugar
1 c. water
3 1/2 tsp. blackberry Jello
4 c. fresh blackberries
9 inch baked pie shell
Cook cornstarch, sugar and water until thick. Stir in Jello until dissolved. Cool filling. Gently stir in blackberries. Put in pie shell. Chill and serve with Cool Whip.

**above pie made with blackberries from my grandparents farm.**

and if you have never checked out Shabby Apple before......

I won!

I am so excited! I love this bag.
I never, never win anything!

I also received the Stiletto Award from Same Sweet Girl: Memoir of a Southern Belle.

First, let us understand the Stiletto… some words that describe it…

Classy – Strong -Exotic – Demure – Extreme – Ultra – Sexy - Bold – Funky

“Walking in extremely high heels is not something that the average woman (or man) will need to do in their everyday life. However, there are times when this skill may be required.” I want to salute the women who balance life, family, and relationships with style and class! Those women who share their experiences with us…who encourage us, inspire us, teach us, make us laugh and basically keep us going! You know who they are! While you read this blog, your family is looking at you wondering what the heck you are laughing about so hard…or why the tissue is necessary for internet browsing. It’s the one that the kids are excited about because a new post means a new craft project or family outing. The one that inspires you to be a better mom, friend, person in general. The one that reminds you that we are all “in this life together” and you’re not the only one going through the hard stuff. The one that you secretly wish your blog was like…

“Heels this high are not meant for clubbing or walking long distances in. They are mainly used for getting from the living room to the bedroom, from the car to the restaurant, or for a short stroll along the catwalk.”

If you’ve received this award, someone out there thinks you deserve it! Be proud! Display the badge with honor! You earned it…after all it means that you brought something special to at least one other person, and really, isn’t that what life’s all about?

THE RULES!

This blog award is meant to be shared, to be given out, to be bestowed upon any and ALL women who exemplify what the stiletto represents. If you’ve received this award, here’s what you do:

1. Display your Stiletto Badge of Honor on your sidebar! Wear it with pride…

2. BRAG ABOUT IT! -write a post about your award. Include the link to this page so everyone will understand what it’s all about!

3. SAY THANKS! thank you girl!

4. SHARE THE LOVE!

5. DO WHAT YOU DO! Keep inspiring and encouraging and sharing your life! We love it and we thank you!
I give this award to.... Jane from and then there was three
